Several days ago somebody asked me if a person could actually lose 40 pounds in a month, and if this is true, how can it be done. I decided to use the response I gave her and make a story out of it. So this is it.

However, before I tell you how you can do this, I have to say that I think that you need to take more time to lose 40 lbs. You will have to do something extreme to do this in a month. However, if you are determined to do this, read further. You need to be informed that if you want to lose 40 pounds in a month, you have to cut down on your calories drastically. It is hard to do this.

There are two ways that you can really do this.

First. Go on a detox diet -- A detox diet rids your body of a large amount of undigested pounds and causes a calorie deficiency. When you are on a detox diet you have to drink plenty of liquids, typically water and fresh fruit juice. This type of dieting cleans you out and prevents hunger. This is the way that you are able to lose 40 pounds quickly. This can be accomplished in a month. But, you need to realize that this might not be the best thing for your health. If you stay on the detox diet for a very long time this could be harmful to your body because you are missing many nutrients. This is wonderful for losing weight quickly, but don't spend too much time on this diet.

Second. Another way to lose 40 lbs in a month is to have a calorie deficiency by doing plenty of exercise and eat limited quantities of food. The requirements are that you must do cardio exercises for four hours weekly at least, and also strength workouts, but cardio is the most important. You won't be developing muscle mass during this month, you will just lose weight. If you do enough cardiovascular exercise, and eat a limited amount of food (plenty of vegetables and fruits, but less carbohydrates), you might be able to lose 40 pounds in one month. However, you need to realize that this will be a lot of work for you.

As I stated, you can actually lose 40 pounds for real in a month if you are very dedicated and have the willpower, but I advise that you take more time to do this. It will not be as difficult that way.

This really does work - I have done it before only problem the minute you come off the total detox and start your old eating habits you gain the weight back twice as much twice as fast! Also it is very very hard to go a whole month detox . It takes alot of self disapline and commitment. If you want it bad enough you can do it!!!!! It really is worth it you'll feel like a million bucks!! Michelle in Al

Remember there are involved risks for going into a diet that produces a fast weight loss in a short time, expert supervision is recommended.

A restriction diet with less than 800 calories / day must not be sustained for more than 4-6 weeks maximum. If the weight loss plan considers only a change on the diet, the results are not as good as combining all three of these things: 1) Diet, 2) Exercise and 3) Behaviour changes.

Detox as you point is a great thing for getting started, but it is also important to deworm. In such way, the colon is improved so that nutrients are best absorbed and toxins best released. It would certainly help the person for getting started on weight loss but as Michelle McBee addressed, following a long detox program is difficult. I recommend 5 days for that. Going on a detox and then out of it doesn't have to do with gaining the weight back, that's why I call out to make good behavioural changes which may really help the person change the bad eating habits.

Learning about nutrition: like diet subjects or how to choose foods, cook them healthy or choose them correctly must be a part of any weight loss program and serves as well for any person that is looking forward to improve their health.

This is dangerous advice. This author is terribly misinformed. If you are doing a crash diet you shouldn't do much if any cardiovascular exercise. You SHOULD do at least two days of full body strength training a week as well as getting 1.5x your lean body mass worth of protein per day (this is to decrease muscle loss during the diet).

If you cut drastically back on calories (enough to lose large amounts of weight. 40 lbs in a month is only realistic for someone pushing 300lbs.) Crash diets can work, but are extremely dangerous if not done correctly. If you need to lose less than 50 lbs, a crash diet for one or two weeks might be a good way to start if you need to see numbers drop fast, but any longer would be dangerous.

Detox diets are worthless. The whole concept of detoxification is a scam. Your body regulates itself very well. There isn't anything rotting away in your colon. Come on. Imagine, just imagine, how much you would accumulate in 10 years, let alone a lifetime. People who do these detox things and see all this waste come out are just seeing 1. waste that would have come out on its own eventually and 2. the product of the "treatments".

Crash dieting isn't a healthy or realistic option, but if you are determined on doing it look into Lyle McDonald's guide on crash dieting. Google his name for his site.

Thanks for posting. But losing 40 lbs in a month is only possible if someone is severely obese. An overweight person is never gonna lose that much weight in a single month.
